Description

  1. Teachers are bombarded with curriculum that is purportedly “Common-Core Aligned.” Experience, however, reveals that much of this curriculum is the same old material, re-wrapped with a shiny new cover. How can we determine what is high quality and what is not? This workshop provides participants with deep training in evaluating materials aligned to the Idaho Core. While examining a high quality lesson & unit, participants will gain experience using the EQuIP Rubric, a tool designed for determining the quality of curricular material for English Language Arts, and Literacy targeted towards lessons for grades 3-12. While the lesson under study targets text dependent questions and close reading, the literacy conversations around the Idaho Core, the Key Shifts, Core-aligned instructional strategies, and varied modes of assessment transcend grade level and content areas. We invite teachers and administrators of all content backgrounds to join the conversation and deepen learning. One Professional Development Credit will be offered through Boise State University for participants who attend both days of training, in their entirety. Day Two is October 23 - register separately. You need to complete EQuIP Day 1 before Day 2. If you’ve already attended Day 1, you are welcome to only attend Day 2. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided to those who register by Friday, October 16. If you have questions about the content of the workshop, please contact the Region III Idaho Core Coaches at idahocore3@sde.idaho.gov.
